Cultivating Lucerne A Victorian farming guide
The article outlines lucerne cultivation in Victoria highlighting spring and early autumn tillage to prevent soil compaction, promote aeration, and enhance stand vigor. It favors deep, regular cultivation using disc harrows or scarifiers, warns against puddling, and cites growers like J M Sinclair and J Johnston noting two to four annual cultivations improve yield, quality hay, and weed control. It also references Orbost and Franklin River areas where rainfed lucerne thrives with proper cultivation practices.
