Milburn's Orchard Keilor Pioneer of a 60 Acre Apricot Farm
Milburn's Orchard at Keilor traces its roots to David Milburn who established it about 40 years ago. Today the 60 acre plantation focuses on apricots with two apple patches and a five acre block of Jonathan and Yates varieties. The Milburn family, including four sons, maintains hydraulic irrigation, reservoirs, and a water system that once delivered 800 gallons per minute. Last year rainfall was 19.60 inches. irrigation may start in November. The farm also raises lambs under orchard shade and grows beans in summer. Frost risk is mitigated by sheltered valley position and careful variety choice.
