The Presby-teian minister who married them probably gave little thought to how long and how happy the marriage would be. Sixty-two years have passed and the young couple arestill living, and together, and according to the groom, more in love than ever. When Chester Redic was about 14 his father sent him to the Byers home on business. Mr. Byers was not in so young Chester was invited into the parlor to state his business to Mrs Byers. Emma, a shy, beautiful. 12-year-old wouldnot speak but Chester saw herwatching him. He says that from that day forward he has watched her too! They were married when Emma Byers was 20 and Chester Redis 22. Miss Emma was a school teacher, a champion speller and became known as one of those rare and wonderful cooks. At one time she won an expensive buffalo robe for spelling everyone in the countryside down. Mr. and Mrs. Redic taught school together for 20 years before Mr. Redics health required them to move west. They came first to El Paso then to Cloudcrolt where they have lived for 40 years. Mr. Redic is in the Real Estate and Insurance business He has builtmany of the better homes in Cloudcroft and knows more of its old timers, and more interesting stories about this part of the country than anyone I know. Some of them are grandparent* now but they still remember the 5th and 6th grades under Mrs. Redic. The Redics have two children. R. B Redic who lives in El Paso and Mrs. Dwight Chenault of Phoenix.
