First Run Of AmtrakTrain No. 31 was the first one into La Crosse under the government’s new Amtrak system, arriving on time (left) at 3:45 p.m. Saturday at the Milwaukee Hoad Depot. During the five-minute stop, Loren Wardwell, (center), president of the Common Council, visited with Frank Dalev (left), Milwaukee Roadpassenger agent here, and Gordon T. Sims, assistant district sales manager in La Crosse. Wardwell represented the city at the request of Mayor W. Peter Gilbertson.
