BA1NBRIDQE NATIVE DOINGdNESUAL WORK IN ARMEDBainbridge, Ga, ,Mareh 30. '7P— Bainbridge citizens will be interest-ed to learn of the unusual and interesting work being done by Van Kaufman, a native of this city, a no grandson of Mr. and Mrs. H. G tollman, in a highly specialized unit of the Army of the United States. Private Kaufman, lately removed from the Walt Disney lot to First Motion Picture Unit, Army Air Forces, Culver City, California, has received considerable commendation for his activities while on the Disney lot, in connection with creating insignia in the familiar technique of animated members of the animal and insect kingdom, for over 100 branches of Uncle Sam’s fighting forces.These humorous and fanciful in-signias are said to be terrific morale builders for the men in the units involved, giving them a tag distinctive to their unit and’something with which to adorn their equipment, stationary, and personal belongings.One of the most famous insignas which Kaufman has created, at the special request of Lt. Colonel Elliott Roosevelt, for his Sixth Reconnaissance Squadron,'shows a Dumbo-like elephant peering through a telescope. He also designed one for his one unit, showing a little fellow sitting in an airplane with bullets whizzing all around him while he grinds out a movie.• s ■Private Kaufman is tne son of Mrs. Blanche Kaufman, formerly of this city, and now secretary in the Public Relations Office at Camp Santa Anita, Arcadia, California.
