In the afternoon a family dinner party was tendered the happy couple by the members of their family in this city.Mr. Nichols enjoys the distinction of being the oldest active business man in the city. In spite of his 94years he visits his office on Commer-#cial St. several times weekly and keeps in close touch with the business. »He is also the oldest retired chief of the Fire , Department, In which he has always maintained great interest. He has been a member of the City Government and of the Overseers of the Poor. Both Mr. and Mrs. Nichols are attendants of Wesley Methodist Church. Mr. Nichols was born in Bowdoin, March. 11, 1822, learned the mason’s trade at 17 and after spending five years inBoston came to this city where hehas since lived. Mrs. Nichols was Rachel Ann Little and was born Dec.13, 1827, a, daughter of Capt. CharlesnnitLittle of Readfleld. They were married by Rev. That house was mbved from the premises about 30 years ago when Mr. Nichols built his present large and handsome dwelling.They have one son, Charles L. Nichols, and one daughter, Mrs. Emma Pierce, both of this city; also nine grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren. The grandchildren are: George K. Nichols of Quincy, Mass.; Fred Nichols of Lawrence, Mass.; Arthur and Randall Nichols of Bath, Mrs. Mary Drew of Collings-wood, N. J.; Mrs. Augustus A. Percy and Miss Rachel Nichols of Bath, Stanley Pierce of New York, and Mrs. Clara Hatch of Bath. The greatgrandchildren are Frances and Louise Drew of West Collingswood, N. J.; Randall Gowell Nichols of North Andover, Read Nichols and Beatrice Nichols, Stanley* Pierce Hatch and Robert B.
