The Whitewright Public Schools will open on Tuesday, Sept. 6, it was announced this week by Supt. S. T. Montgomery Jr., following a meeting held by the Board of Education.All first grade pupils will be required to have a photostatic copy of their birth certificates, Mr. Montgomery said. These will remain on file with their school records. These photostatic copies may be obtained by taking the original birth certificate to any photographic studio, including Long’s Studio in Whitewright.Mrs. S. T. Montgomery Jr. was elected at the board meeting as a member of the faculty to fill the vacancy created by the addition of a new faculty member.Mr. Montgomery said there will be a faculty meeting at 9 o’clock Friday morning, Sept. 2.Segregation of white and Negro students will continue here through the next school year, Mr. Montgomery said. Rev. N. P. Edwards was reelected to drive the Negro school bus.Joe Miller, Tass Farrow and Howard Erwin will drive the three white busses, with Mr. Erwin being the bus maintenance man. An additional bus will be added as soon as state approval can be obtained, Mr. Montgomery said, and this will require the services of another driver.
