flUnole Jimmie” and “Aunt Jane” Walker, of Des Moines, Celebrate the Notable Event in a Happy Manner.AT THE HOME OF THEIR DAUGHTER.A Large and Happy Company of Relatives and Friends Is Present—Sumptuously Banquetted.On the third day of April, 1855, in the town of Weathers field, Stark county, Illinois, Rev. Win, Winn, a Baptist minister, spoke the words that unitied in the bonds of matrimony James Walker and Miss Sarah Jane Way. Fifty years later, after the struggles and successes of half a century, they celebrated the auspicious event Monday, at the home of their eldest daughter, Mrs. Alfred Modlin, seven miles southeast of Eldora.• Mr, and Mrs. Walker came up from Des Moines, where they now reside, that they might celebrate so important an event among their long time friends of their active lives. Soon after their marriage they came to Grundy county, spring of 1856, thus identifying themselves with the struggles and privations of the early pioneers. In 1880, they removed to Hardin county to the farm now known as the Rockwell farm, and later to Eldora, where they resided several years until their removal to Des Moines.A•In spite of the rain that fell in torrents during the early part of Mohday about sixty guests gathered there. At noon an elegant dinner was served followed by a social hour. “ Uncle Jimmie0 and “Aunt Jane,” as their friends love to call them, appeared at their best, and we could but wonder that they showed so little sign of the half century’s experiences. In behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Walker, Rev. W. E* Stanley returned thanks to the donors for the numerous and valuable gifts received. He spoke of the noble example these people had given the age of fidelity to the marriage vow. Rev, avis, of the East Side M. E. church, rp}ld. vvitli remarks and’ prayer. It was an occasion entered into heartilyand enjoyed by all, and by none more than by the principals, Mr. and Mrs. Walker. There were present Mr. and Mrs; Alfred Modlin, nee^Ida, Walker; Mrs. Robert Modliti, Howard Modlin, ^ife and child; Kenneth, Chester, Frank, Harry and Jimmie Modlin; Mr. and Mrs. Gohring, nee Anna Walker, of Iowa Falls: Fred Furman, Ralph and Sammy Gohring, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Sayer, bee Matie Walker; Ethel and Miles Sayer, George Walker and wife, William, Ethel and Georgie; Mrs. Mark Furman, nee Lizzie Walker, of Des Moines; Gertrude and Margaret Furman; Frank Walker, Rev. B. A. Davis,Iwife and son, Watson; Mr. and Mrs, Harry Martin and daughter, Elinor; Mr. and Mrs. George Cobb, Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Wilcox, Bessie Brownell, Clare Pptnam, C. McKeen Duren, and daughter, Mabel; Mr. and Mrs. George Jepsen, Mrs. Otis Hall, Mrs. Jane Watson, Mrs, Louise Moser, Clara Baskin, Mrs, L. A, Daggett, Mrs. Kate Furman and daughter, Vera, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Thamer.The absent were Lionel Walker, O’Brien county, Iowa; Mrs. Lane, nee Bertha Walker, Indian Head, Canada.Mr. and Mrs. Walker are the parents of twelve children, of whom four died in infancy. They have had twenty-nine grandchildren, all of whom are living except four, and five great grand children, of whom all but one are now living. There were four generations present at the golden wedding.
