Albany Native Association Elects Leaders at Town Hall Meeting

The Albany branch of the Australian Natives Association held a large attendance meeting at the Town Hall on Monday night. H A Henson was elected president with Thornett Gee Mitchell as vice presidents, and L S Burnell as treasurer. Wirth reappointed secretary. committee members include Burnett and Yorte. Delegation to the Friendly Societies Council chosen as Keasaughin. Meeting approved routine payments and discussed building work and meeting day, shifting to Fridays from next month.

Doctors in Australia and New South Wales study

An excerpt from the Medical Journal of Australia discusses doctor supply in the Commonwealth and New South Wales. It estimates about 3,500 practicing doctors nationwide, and analyzes ratios of doctors to people, noting metropolitan concentration and recent growth in practitioner numbers. In Victoria the figures suggest roughly one doctor per 1,000 residents, with around 1,250 doctors projected if estimates hold.

Friendly Societies Council Hosts May Night Prize Party

The Albany Friendly Societies Council plans a social at St Josephs Hall on Monday evening May 20 at 8 pm with five main prizes and two booby prizes. Prizes are donated by local businesspeople to fund future entertainments and a potential Monster Gala Day, with ongoing events promised to boost support from Friendly Societies and the town.

Poultry and Farm Lighting by Electric Power

Electric heating for incubators and hovers offers continuous operation and cleaner air for poultry breeding. A 2240 egg Matthews incubator yields 83.5 percent hatching, while 60 egg units use far more power per egg than larger 250 egg models. Artificial lighting in coops extends laying, raising winter output by up to 25 percent in lighter breeds and 10 percent in heavier ones. Cow barns benefit from lighting to reduce milk spill losses, paying for electricity at 4d per unit.
