Farmers near Albany south of Tenterden test planted oats and a few wheat grains on a Proongorup road farm owned by Mr Townsend. Despite heavy rains and a dry spell later, the grain matured well with well filled kernels, suggesting wheat and oats can prosper in surrounding districts. Townsend brothers diversify into mixes farming dairying and fruit while improving swamp land drainage. Road conditions and wet winters hinder travel but summer crops look promising, with potatoes also strong across several acres.
A New Year’s Day crowd from across the district joined waterports committee events at the river for Tambellup’s eleventh annual regatta. Highlights included inter-district double sculls won by Tambe llup entrants after a hard race with Katanning, plus canoe, diving, swimming, and single scull races. Messrs Richardson and Co are erecting several premises with foundations dug. The rear site is being filled with sand bricks by a four man gang. Once finished the premises will enhance the town’s business appearance. Crop yields vary with rainfall. some crops poor, others satisfactory.
The township roads look fine after a Low milew but many main routes are in a shocking state. Johnson's Road from Gordon River bridge has fallen trees blocking passage with no action taken to clear them. A detour via Cranbrook and Pootenup is advised as the better route.
