North Adelaide Institute forms to promote science and literature
A public meeting at Christ Church School in North Adelaide on August 26 1851 adopted the rules for a new North Adelaide Institute. The organization aims to encourage science art and industry through a library reading room museums model room lectures and classes with periodical publication. Membership options include annual subscriptions 10s half yearly 5s quarterly and 50 58 or upwards for life members. The committee of twenty one will manage affairs with officers elected in October and future general meetings require notice. Seventy six members enrolled their names.
