The Daily Tiles and General Printing Office announces a large assortment of new type now ready for use at the Wadeelaide Times Office. The proprietor offers newspaper printing and book work on competitive terms, praising its press work.
A scanned page presents petitions and candidate letters from 1851 seeking support for William Younghusband and William Prescott to stand for the New Legislative Council. The documents praise public service, outline political views on education, church-state relations, franchise, ballot voting, and governance, and list electors and signatories from districts Stanley Gawler and the Northern Runs and North Adelaide.
An advertisement proclaims the well known establishment under new management. It offers cleansing and repair, superior lodging, wines and spirits, daily noon meals, and evening concerts with singing and instruments. Billiards entertainments and stabling overseen by Mr Benjie Greig. Also listed are a broad array of goods for sale and wholesale notices.
An Adelaide reader questions the accuracy of a Hawker supporters list published by W Lennon for the Stanley and Gawler election. He says two names repudiated the list and denies consent, asking for withdrawal of his name and correction in the local committee’s advertisement.
An 1861 North Eastern Division address by Sam Prescott outlines support for universal suffrage, opposition to public money for religion, and commitment to education, mining and agricultural interests, and to developing colonial prosperity through commerce and shipping. Prescott pledges to meet electors to explain further.
A March 1851 public meeting at Aldinge Hotel Maclaren Vale resolved to censure the District Road Commissioners for issuing summonses to enforce the old land tax rate. Attendees pledged to resist the old rate, deny the debt, and compel the visa to produce books. A fund was authorized with Treasurer Mr Lund and a four member committee Norman Lovelock Oliver Balderstone to manage the defence and expenses.
