Barrie Hill Church celebrates hundredth anniversary
Barrie Hill United Church marked its 100th anniversary of building the first church founded in 1832, with Sunday services, a Monday supper, and reflections on early pioneers. Rev Brydon led sermons recalling Eramosa’s solid stock and long church traditions, amid music by the choir and readings by Mrs. Marshall.

Christmas cards and garden notes brighten Acton items
Mrs Wells of Elora will show hand painted Christmas cards and small pictures at Wilbur Street next Friday afternoon and evening. Changes to the C N R timetable include later eastbound evening mail and Toronto Sunday trains. A six foot tomato vine with 88 tomatoes, a freak green-topped tomato, and a one pound fourteen ounce potato highlight local harvests. A.M. McCann’s car was stolen and burned on Cardigan Street, later found wrecked on the old Berlin Road. Barn fires in Ancaster and a haystack blaze at Mrs Isabel Stewart’s Scotch Block farm threaten local agriculture. Community events at the Legion Club Rooms featured music, refreshments, and a lively social atmosphere with veterans noting precautions for future gatherings. Churchill anniversary and fowl supper scheduled for early October.

Acton Park arena hosted Acton Schools Field Day with Georgetown High pupils as guests. Bright fall sun and a cool wind accompanied events from morning into six in the evening. Results include Dorothy MacArthur Acton and Nellie Maynard Georgetown leading in running broad jump and high jump among others, with Dorothy Coxe Acton and Beatrice Bristow Acton scoring in sprints and field events. Senior and junior champions named, with cups awarded for overall points and form victories.

Bishop J. R. Chitambar of the Methodist Episcopal Church in India paid tribute at Ballinafad to Bishop Francis Wesley Ware, a Canadian leader in India, depositing a wreath on Ware’s grave. Ware, born December 30, 1854 in Erin Township, served 59 years in ministry, worshipped in Ballinafad as a boy, and died in Brooklyn, New York.
