Acton Fair Opens Another Successful Year
Weather-gleamed Acton Fair drew 1,500 for a two hour arena show. Exhibits included top horse and cattle displays, new Women's Institute and Historical exhibits, grain and fruit quality, and a large prize parade led by Acton Citizens' Band. Major features included Trainers Animal Circus, Johnny Emmerson, and the Coronation Badge heavy horse winner A Hewson of Oakville.

Acton Continuation School announced trophy winners for the 1047-48 academic year. Trophies honor general proficiency in Form I and middle school subjects, with named students like Hetty Burkholder, Jock Vandloosen, Jack Hollinger, Kay Chapman, Sheila Breen, and others. New field day trophies include Reid Electric and Tyler’s Service. Field Day is slated for September 20 with events at the school and park.

Bright young life ends in Toronto Poliomyelitis
Knox Beardmore, only son of Col. and Mrs. A. O. T. Beardmore, died in Toronto after polio. Born in Acton, he studied at Grove, Lakefield and University of Toronto Schools, then joined Clarkson Gordon Dilworth Nash. He held a Delta Kappa Epsilon pledge, served as a lieutenant in the Royal Regiment Toronto Grenadiers, and worked with the Chemical Engineering Board in 1938. The Acton plant closed for his graveside service at Mount Pleasant and a memorial service is planned at St. Thomas Church with Delta Kappa Epsilon, Royal Regiment, and university friends attending.
