A special council meeting attended by Beardmore and Laighman discussed signing an agreement with the Nellance Shoe Company to clear claims and permit building occupancy. Efforts to draft duplicate agreements with Gourlay & Fogelberg Limited and to publish a by law on taxation were approved. A heated exchange over financial reporting followed as Dr Gray and the Reeve clashed on access to accounts and prior assurances. The session concluded with a plan to provide specific reports on year payments and total millage, adjourned at 6 48.
Community events across Hatton County include the Scheel and Hehool Fairs in Hatton, political meetings for John F. Ford, centenarian visits, a Victory Fair announcement, church services, and public notices. Also reported are polling-place updates for Acton referendum, a Limehouse anniversary, garden displays at the Lindsay farm, and a lively fair night concert program with Toronto soprano Margrie Munry and local performers.
A Sunday evening service at the Methodist Church marked the Odd Fellows 100th anniversary with Acton Lodge No 204 attendees. Music featured Bertie Amith and Williams with a strong vocal performance, as decor and attendance reflected a festive mood. Nursing Sister Bertha Cole returned from overseas and shared experiences in Britain and Tipperary. Pte Tindall of Saskatchewan visited Toronto surgeons and reconnected with Sgt George Cook. Dr. T. D. J. Palmer donates three prizes of 5.00, 100.00 and 42.00 for three beat-looking women aged 18 to 66 to be selected at the Acton Fall Fair. Two male judges from Acton and beyond will award prizes without local prejudice based on dress, deportment, and appearance. Winners to be announced in the Mees Puese with prizes payable at the Fair Office.
The saw mill operated by Mr. Carson on the mountain property, recently bought from Mr. Jas. Moore by Mr. Cockburn of Guelph, was totally destroyed by fire on Monday evening last week. Six thousand feet of lumber and a large quantity of alba were burned.
Crewsons Corner reports Mr and Mrs Alger Cripps Lola Crewson of Moffat and Mr John Crewson of Guelph spent Sunday at Mr M Crowson s. Mrs W Lamb and Milas Cook of Acton visited Mrs G Lamb last week. Mic 3 Sault Paulinch visited here last week. Acton Fair next week promised more attractions than ever.
The notice records anniversary services at Knox Church on a September 21 with Rev. John Neil D. D. Taranto preaching both morning and evening. Mrs J D Makenzie of Windsor travels home after visiting her parents Mr and Mrs A L Hematreet Champion. The soldiers reception is praised as a countywide grand event with exceptional decorations marking Milton’s notable demonstrations.
Mr and Mrs Jas Darragh celebrated their golden wedding last Thursday. Mr Thompson of Knatchbull shaved a horse, causing injury to its regien in a way that required heat. Ernest Fatt, son of Edward Fatt, fractured his right arm in two places and is recovering. Negsagaweya Township Rural School Fair was held at Hrookville on Wednesday. Billo Mibu will start next week. Some good fields of corn can be seen this year through the country.
Friday noon fire gutted W Ann ahong's house just below the village. Pte E Limphear and his bride, home from the war, visited at local homes. Town lands have been sold, Dr Allan Ollson announces the engagement of his niece Miss Nettle Awrey to Archibald Nussell of Brampton. The couple plan their wedding later this month.
The amendment to the bylaw names Chief Kerr as tax collector with a 1500 salary under consideration. The Fall Fair will run Thursday through Saturday. Rev J E Munro of Knox Church Oakville is congratulated on becoming Moderator of the Toronto Presbytery. Merv Cavers seeks leave to spend winter in California. Mr and Mrs Fairfield plan a month with W J Gunn of Hamilton Manitoba. The Mayor requests two to four cannons for Oakville from LU Col Mewburn. The lockup is moved to the old barracks on Navy Street during new lockup construction. The Oakville Agricultural Society gains a handsome band from Mrs H C Cox grounds improvements continue.

Atkinson, hosted or visited friends in nearby towns, with engagements ranging from church matters to social calls. Notable items include Marion Matilda Firstherstons engagement to Joseph Miatt, Armatrong returning to Acton birthplace, and W. H. H. Biewart appointed inspector of the Children’s Aid Society for Halton and Peel.
