Listowel eliminated Acton from the O.B.A. playdowns with two straight wins in three days. Acton led early but Listowel rallied to win 18-12 in Acton and 12-10 in Listowel, then 16-9 in a later result, as pitching and timely hitting tilted the series.
Former Stoney Creek residents Mr. and Mrs. Ken Hulford have purchased the Acton Bowling Lanes and will reopen this week after extensive redecorating. They bring nearly 25 years in bowling alley operation and have added new equipment to the six lanes, refinished the lanes, renewed floor coverings and updated the painting scheme. They reside on Bower Ayr with their young daughter and are members of the Ontario Bowling Association and the Ontario Bowling Proprietors Association.

A 1934 Terraplane model automobile rolled from the road into a ditch west of town. The driver, George Monte, escaped injury and appeared shaken but unharmed after the incident reported by local police.
The newspaper announces a Labor Day Monday closure on September 6 and a Canada holiday. Advertisers and correspondents are asked to submit copy by Saturday noon and mail newsletters by the usual Tuesday morning. The office will be closed on Labor Day.

Baxtop Laboratories employees along with spouses and families gathered at Waterloo Park for the annual picnic. About 100 traveled by bus and car for sports, swimming, races, treasure hunt, and crafts with prizes awarded to children and adults.
