Halton council members discuss upcoming municipal nomination and election. Reeve Hinton reports early intentions from two men, with others undecided or declining to comment. Some councillors confirm running again while others defer decisions.
The Acton Chamber of Commerce hosts a candidates night at Robert Little Public School Monday at 8 pm for the federal riding of Noveur bar 6. John Ruddy of the Yoant Masters Club Gosiph chairs. Attending candidates include Dr. Harry Hartey Liberal Allan Masson PC Murray Kernighan NDP and Henry Timmins Conservative Independent.
Halton residents absent from home may vote at advance polls this weekend with hours from 9 am to 9 pm Standard Time on Sunday and 9 am to 8 pm Saturday due to Daylight Saving Time. Acton polls include Willow Street location for voters and several area polls. Local churches discuss implications of proposed union between United and Anglican congregations. Sunday morning flag dedication at St. Alban's Church attended by Guide and Brownie groups.
Acron pus Susan Elizabeth Cohen survived with minor injuries after a two vehicle crash near Fergus Saturday. Cass Amos Durose of Goeiot died instantly. Edward Charles Naklasson died later in hospital. Driver Veen Les lie Tivland of Arthur assisted. Miss Cohen and other youth were planned for marriage.
The Acton Curling Club wins council approval to install facilities in the downstairs banquet room of the Community Centre to qualify for a banquet permit under provincial rules. The plan, debated by council and the Recreation Committee, requires rental agreements and final liquor permit approval. The meeting also outlined election dates and a proposed watermain project with land easements and sidewalk adjustments planned near Portes and Mall Streets.
Citizens press limits on blasting blamed for home damage as council weighs investigations and costs. Mayor and officials report mixed evidence from quarry engineers while some argue further study is too costly and impractical to pursue.
Eight councillors from Halton walk out of county meetings causing no quorum and delaying approval of regional jail plans. Warden Herb Merry notes the stalemate blocks accounts and a key staffing recommendation while discussions center on representation from Oakville and Burlington.

George J Collina of 188 Longfield Road has been hired as caretaker of Acton's Federal Building on Bow er Avenue. He will start next Monday, succeeding Cam Lelshman who retired after 33 years with Public Works. The Collinas moved to Acton about a year ago from Nassagaweys.
