Kerr wins Halton riding with large margin in provincial vote

George Kerr is returned to office with a substantial lead over NDP rival Ted MacDonald and Liberal Jack Lush. Final counts show Kerr leading in Burlington and across Nassagaweya Esquesing and Acton areas amid heavy turnout and rain. Final tally reported by Halton West Returning Officer Don McMillan by 10:30 p.m. shows Kerr with 13,791 votes to 7,858 for MacDonald and 6,395 for Lush.

Brookville Family Mourns After Tragic City Fire

Two Brookville area children died in a Toronto home blaze early Sunday. Dorothy McLaren 10 and Debbie 5 died after being trapped on the third floor with other victims Sheryl Harris 12 and Carole Harris 10. Firefighters, parents, and bystanders faced a devastating rescue attempt as Kenneth Trowbridge noted the loss to Brookville School. The McLaren family had moved from Brampton to Nan­sagaweya township this summer, with funeral services planned at Rumley Shoemaker in Acton.

Over 100 calls streamed in as Heller and Ca. informed readers of results from Halton West and Halton East. Final figures showed Acton Esquesing around 8 45 p m with voters casting 67 percent of 2 320 eligible in Adem and 1539 votes counted overall amid rain and slow turnout.

Mayor Duby Earns Second in International Plowing Match

Acton mayor Les DubyPlaced second in the special mayors class at the International Plowing Match held at Joe Cochrane farm Barrie. Despite little practice since 17 years, he edged toward straight furrows with coaching from Albert Gray of Rockwood. Allan Pietz of Welland won, with Dunnville’s Charles Lundy third. Helton warden Ball Counter also competed as crowds watched five helicopters overhead.

Worton Re elected MPP for Wellington South With 12614 Votes

Liberal incumbent Harry Worton is returned as MPP for Wellington South with 12614 votes. PC candidate Norm Jaty received 8234 votes, followed by NDP candidate Dr Eugene Benson with 6134 votes.

Recount Possible in Halton East Vote Battle See-saws to Edge for Snow

In Halton East, a tight Ontario Legislature race between Progressive Conservative James E. Snow and Liberal Robin Skuce swung for hours on election night. Final unofficial totals had Snow at 9,810 to Skuce's 9,708 with 6,385 for William Gillies, in a 26,000 total vote with over 40,000 eligible.
