Charles Hansen appointed Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission after taking the oath of office to replace J MacArthur who resigned. The commission condemned an Acton Free Press editorial for unfounded statements on the proposed debenture issue and rate impacts.
Si Johnson of Toronto guest spoke at morning and evening services for the Ac ton Baptist Church 11th anniversary. Local Protestants attended the evening service. Johnson urged letting God guide paths through trouble and joy. Special music featured wax and a duet.
A grass fire out of control near a Dublin cross road farm entrance was quickly put out by Acton fremen with a pumper. Jake Koetsier, who rents a farm on Third Line of Quesing, reported the blaze after trying to smother it with a shovel as trees and weeds caught fire.
A capacity crowd filled Brown's Corners United Church basement for Rev. E A Currey of Acton United Church delivering the anniversary sermon. Acton choir performed three anthems and Mrs Robbins sang Never My God to Thee, with over 80 members present. Visitors and friends joined Acton at the parsonage on Victoria Square for refreshments and lunch in the church basement after service.

Dublin Women’s Institute held a meeting at Mrs. de Wack’s home with 22 members answering a mystery question. Reports covered Erin area highlights, garden prizes won by Mrs. JC Van Goozen, travel, and African violet care. District congratulated Dublin for a prize at the area convention.
Pupils watched as Elmer the Safety Elephant flag was lowered after an incident near parked cars. Constable Robbins warned students about street crossing rules while a fellow pupil, Dave Shannon, suffered a minor head injury from a roadway incident.
Ladies from Ebenezer Rockwood Ball:natad and Acton churches gathered at the United church Sunday school for the Women's Missionary Society Thankoffering meeting. Mrs Langrey spoke of church work and Europe trip, Mrs Longley described restoring the Coronation processional and Easter theme, a luncheon followed with formal chats.
Firefighters battled a blaze in a new storage shed at the A P Green Fire Brick Co plant on Bower Ave after late Friday actions by Edward Ryan and Fergus Quee natl. Loss estimated at 100 dollars. cause undetermined. Smoke was seen from a storage window and alarms rang as workers contained the fire.
On Sunday October 18 the Church of England in Canada observed Children’s and Youth Sunday. At St Albans Church 185 parents and children joined the morning service. The rector Roy R. EB Price spoke on wonder in creation as worship. Boys from the church school acted as sidesmen and the junior choir sang Fairest Lord Jesus.
The Woman's Association of the United church met at Mrs Veldhuis home with President Mrs Ho Burns presiding. Devotional led by Mrs E A Currey as members answered fruit to roll call. Quilts were completed and three sent to Korea. A donation was planned for a memorial to the late Mrs Jewith at Freaks Training School for leaders. Lunch was served by the Veldhuis group. Delegates extended sympathy to Mrs C W Mason and others bereaved. Mr and Mrs William Gamble greeted for their 16th wedding anniversary.
A large turnout attended the Square Dance Club gathering at Hall last Friday evening. Mrs Vyse won the door prize and Gerry Candler announced the winners of the Arele Penns square dance set. An old-time soldier was a guest at the event.
Acton council on Monday approved a 1900000 debenture issue to cover the high school erection costs, with a 91000, 5 per cent note over 20 years. The meeting also authorized a Burroughes Sensimatic machine purchase for 4000 and set taxes, bylaw changes, and election arrangements.
Dr Moore of the Psychologies Service Centre Toronto urged Acton Home and Schools Association members to pursue maximum education regardless of chosen jobs. He stressed personal qualities and adaptable intelligence as crucial. Gerry Candler introduced him. W. Wolfe presided and George Mason spoke. A new Home and School play was announced and prizes awarded for parent turnout. Mrs Alger's grade won $2 for most parents present.
