Publisher P Moore appeals to subscribers to settle this year's free press charges and years past due. He notes many accounts are in arrears and that small weekly amounts add up to hundreds of dollars. Immediate response requested.
The thirty ninth annual Halton Agricultural Society show at Milton drew large entries and good attendance. Dairy and fruit displays were weaker, grain and roots were strong, and the horse ring drew crowds with prize stock changing hands at 450 dollars. A band contest impressed judges and visitors, with Brampton first, Orangeville second, Streetaville third. The event boasted no drunken incidents, attributed to the Scott Act, and praised organizers D W Campbell and W C Beaty.
Local electors decisively backed the Scott Act in Simcoe and Stanstead counties last Thursday with majorities of 1965 and 27 respectively. Simcoe conducted effective canvassing. Stanstead had previously fallen short by nearly 200. The liquor party faces demoralization as the majority ranges from 150 to 250 and money oratory cannot offset solid public opposition.
