An odd poem-like piece discusses a smiling gesture as a universal aid and friendship, then shifts to a critique of margarine in Europe and Canada. It mentions postwar butter prices and describes margarine ingredients and supposed health claims, attributing them to physicians and dairy protection laws.
An advertisement-like fragment promotes Burdock Blood Bitters as a cure for dyspepsia. It includes a testimonial from James Burns of Nalmoral about relief after using the product sold by The T Milburn Co. Toronto and other blurred copy about a courtroom scene and plea details.
An OCR filled with garbled text promotes Milburn Liver Pills and Laxa Liver Pills as the best liver regulators. It touts decades of reputation, appeals to health and comfort, warns of headaches, and promises relief, pairing dubious medical claims with sensational language.
Reader guidance on headaches causes and self care. The text lists common triggers such as overindulgence in alcohol, overeating, lack of exercise, eye strain, poor breakfast, and stress. It recommends lifestyle changes including moderate intake, outdoor activity, balanced meals, hydration, and simple remedies like hot baths, warm compresses, and eye rest, while warning against headache medicines containing harmful ingredients.
A reader endorses Lydia Pinkham's Vegetable Compound as a tonic for female troubles. The letter from a Kentucky woman writes of relief after trying the remedy and urges other women to request information from Lydia Pinkham’s company, noting confidentiality and a July trial.
A mixed weekly digest reports on military and political items from Canada and Britain. It notes a $250h battalion assigned to France, Canada’s contract questions, a note of protest from the British government, labor and conscription debates, hotel and rail disruptions, and various regional notices of deaths, accidents, and allocations. The tally includes railway incidents, shore patrols, and shifts in munitions policy with several named places and officials.
Fragmentary OCR notes describe a chaotic scene where many have become affected by an unseen force and others flee. The text hints at a magical trade or power beyond ordinary pricing, with references to a hero named Itrobe and a dramatic, low value clash of prices.
A flood of war news from Ottawa and Toronto dominates the page, noting political shifts, labor disputes, and military mobilization. Reports include warnings to advance operations, Ontario government tensions, and death notices, with scattered local incidents and civic updates interwoven amid the war effort.
Testimonial style ad claims Milburn's Heart and Nerve Pills cure heart palpitations and fainting spells. The reader describes severe symptoms and states relief after using the product sold by The Trinitkara Company Limited of Toronto. Prices listed as 60 cents per box or two for a larger order.
