Acton council met to discuss sewerage work costs with the Canadian Legion seeking 100 toward 241. Officials okayed increased insurance, by laws for debentures and hall leases, and a court revision date. Debenture plans and sewage disposal quotes were reviewed for action by October 31.
Acton Fair drew a record crowd of 10,000 as it was lauded as the best fair in 34 years. Milas Wilma Scott West, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Bo Wet of Acton, married Mr Jot William Frank Chapman in Acton Baptist Church with a reception in the church basement. The ceremony featured Mrs Weat and Mrs Chapman in navy crepe outfits and a reception guest list including local residents and out-of-town attendees from Toronto and Ottawa.
Acton Fair closes with garden and arena awards amid weather and scheduling issues. Winners include Wee Waller Ft Salt and Calin McColl in garden divisions while ABC Farms dominates arena classes. notable exhibitors from Fergus and Acton feature, with spectators from California and Toronto.
The Farm Forum of Halton County met at the Court House in Milton on September 26 to discuss organization and accomplishments. A five member committee was formed to gather hospitalization plan information for circulation to all Farm Forums for discussion, with delegates named to attend the Brantford conference in October. Members named include Maurice Readhead Mrs. Percy Lamb Mrs. Geo Brownridge Milton Brown and RS Heatherington.
Veterans of the South African War gathered in Acton for a church parade and wreath laying at the soldiers monument. Speakers included Lt Col Hatantyne and A Padbury while Rev McPherson led a sermon on the Good Samaritan. After a supper, the procession returned to Town Hall with the Boys Band, and veterans thanked the local band for its performance.
The Woman's Association of Acton met at Mrs D H W Lindsay's home last Tuesday with Mrs Agar presiding and Mrs D R Johnston leading the devotional period. Quilter began when materials were ready and Mrs Lindsay was aided by Mrs No McNabb and Mrs Wood, who coordinated lunch service and cleanup.
Toronto driver Harry A Mann of Mortimer Avenue collided with a train at the Mill Street crossing in Acton after failing to see it. He sustained facial and leg injuries but received medical aid and was taken to city hospital. car heavily damaged. Also mentions Dan Tastor injured and hospitalized in Guelph.
Chas W Burgeest on a Balinafad area farm had his left foot caught in a corn cutting machine and lost all five toes. He was hospitalized in Guelph after recent army discharge in August.
