Howard W. Allison and Mrs. Allison have purchased a Milton meat market and moved to the County Town to run it. They leave Acton after years as respected residents. Friends wish them success in the new business.
A crowd of 100 to 150 gathered at the Town Hall last night for a Reconstruction party rally in Ontario. Speakers highlighted women’s franchise, youth prospects, and a platform opposing old-party influence while urging support for Mr. Robinson as a reform candidate.
A humorous dialogue unfolds at a tobacconist and a railway worker quips about wives and grease. A customer asks for a strong cigar for her husband while another jokes about red grease and long journeys. The piece captures light banter and domestic humor in a newspaper cartoon panel.
Dr J E Smart M C Ph D M A B Sc from Acton England brought a goodwill message and a silk flag gift to Canada. The Town Hall gathering hosted Mrs Kent and Mr Knight with Reeve Harrison presiding and H P Moore's memory honored.
Provisional Board of Directors of Acton Y M C A adopted a drafted budget with age based membership fees from 1 to 21 and over 5 dollars. Equipment order approved including gym gear and a plan for opening night programs led by Alex Maclaren with fourteen Central YMC A members. A constitution and by laws committee was appointed and a Y Mr. s Club formation will be considered later.
The Symon Hardware firm expands into a newly completed store on Main Street Acton as part of the late James Symon’s unfinished plan. The modern two story building includes a front showroom basement and rear entrance with living quarters above. Dr F P W Pearen will occupy the upstairs office and living space.
At the Milton nomination meeting held Monday the Returning Officer announced George Currie Hughes Cleaver and E M Robinson as Halton County candidates. Speakers urged support for Currie and Bennett with commentary on trade policy and local industry, while Cleaver and Robinson defended their records and attacked opposing positions. Concluded on page eight.
Georgetown Fabre Nhers showcased strong stock entries at the Georgetown Pal on Saturday. The heavy horse exhibit drew praise, though cold weather kept attendance down. Music by Some Rifles Band accompanied fiddling winners James Nichol and Hugh McCormack, with a thrilling steeplechase race delivering spills and thrills.
At the Acton School Board monthly meeting trustees considered using the building gymnasium for high school students. A Y M C A committee discussed arrangements and a special meeting was set for October 15 to pursue a definite decision after inquiry.
The Acton Hockey Club held its annual meeting with Dr E J Nelson presiding. A new intermediate team was approved for OHLA play, two managers to be chosen by the executive, and officers elected led by President Nelson and Treasurer Graham.
The Unity Men’s Club of the United Church announces an evening program with refreshments on Wednesday October 23. Admission is 35 cents. Next Sunday evening October 13 a sacred drama titled For He Had Great Possessions will be performed at Rockwood Presbyterian Church by Norfolk Street Church members, at 7 15 p.m. Altar collection.
