The Duke of Devorshire Chapter LODE held its regular October meeting at Graham Peel Street home. Mrs A Mowat introduced speaker Mrs OH Brooks from Somcoe, provincial convener of Empire and World Affairs, who urged women to engage in world affairs and warned against ignorance of communism. P U C Seeks 35 600 Capital Outlay For Public Utilities
At a regular meeting last week the Acton Public Utilities Commission sought approval from the Ontario energy board for capital expenditures up to 39 800 through December 31 1954. The plan lists costs for distribution system work including 16 000 for frequency standardization 2 000 for stores 4 300 for rehabilitation and extension 1 200 for line transformers 100 for meters 1 000 for a new truck 800 for hot water heat control and 4 001 for a bank overdraft funded from existing resources with a debenture. The secretary treasurer was authorized to credit a 1 000 consumer deposit against the account. The commission discussed services for a proposed new dwelling and referred the matter to council since the property is not a town street. They planned attendance at a council meeting on October 5 regarding new study beds for the disposal plant and HEPC of Ontario proposed to fund 346 for a 25 hp meter at the pump house with option costs totaling 275 if charged. A new billing machine cost 40 was discussed to be shared by hydro water sewers and the village. The Grace committee on Hydro Accounts noted other sundry purchases and meters. Mayor Oakes planned to visit Hespler to inspect a similar machine. The superintendent reported 60 amp service to the pump house and relocation of a hydrant near the school lane. Chairman MacArthur resigned effective immediately to take a new post, with appreciation for colleagues. Acton PAC accepted the resignation of the chairman effective October 1, 1963.

Mrs Ray Watson Dies at Grimsby
Mrs Ray Watson died Monday at her residence 9 Welland Avenue Grimsby. She was born in Welland County to the late Mr and Mrs John Kollmer and lived in Georgetown before moving to Grimsby nine years ago with her husband. She attended Trinity United Church. Her husband, a former Acton resident, survives. Service held at Stone House Funeral Home Grimsby. burial in Fairtyes Cemetery Acton.
