Acton extends a hearty welcome to the Teachers Institute in session today and tomorrow. The town’s citizens express hope the meetings will be profitable and enjoyable and that Acton may be chosen again as a meeting place for the institute of Hulton County.
The Young People of the United Church held a large meeting in the Behool Room on Monday night. Officers for the year were elected including Honorary President Rev CL Pools, President Glephenson, First Vice President Miss Bennett, Second Vice President A McKeown, Third Vice President J Stewart, Fourth Vice President YL Outrander, Miss Oubert, Secretary Wm Wilson, Treasurer Barry Norton, Chaplain Ming Wuth Olbaon, Assistant Pianist Miss Velma Murray, and Music Committees Masons Wosis Taylor and Y McLaughlin.
Malcolm Muir of Lormeville Junction found dead on the Co N. BR tracks west of Hockwood after likely falling from a freight. Identification by Provincial Police. Inquest to be held in Rockwood at 8 30 tonight with Dr Bluart presiding and Crown Attorney J M Kearns examining witnesses. Jury viewed body at McNiven's funeral parlors.
A Young People's Guild rally in the church school room kicked off 1931-32 with a Hard Time party and the election of officers. The list includes Honorary President Rev WW G Laurier, President Jon Wurst, Vice President Mrs M W Moore, and Secretary Mr Murray, plus a long slate of committee conveners and placers.
Acton and the District UF will hold their annual meeting on Friday October 16 in the Parish Hall. All members and those wishing to join are urged to be present. Surveying for a new subway is underway to connect Centre Road with Provincial Highway No 1 after construction under the Canadier National Bathway.
Public Utilities Commission meeting notes show accounts approved for Hydro Electric Power and local suppliers. Oakville figures include juvenile court appointment for Halton and local police court work. The. fatal incident and jail statistics report one year, with costs per prisoner, plus community reports on mockey, fire drill, and a funeral notice for Graham Lawson of Guelph.
Esquesing council meets with Deputy Reeve Currie and five councillors present. Minutes noted and various by laws read, seconded, and passed including tax collection, road funds, school sections, and charity aid for the township of Esquesing. The session adjourned to meet in November after approving numerous by laws and appointing tax collectors.
Members of the U F C Clubs gathered at the Sayers home and presented Miss Jean Sayers with a chair prior to her marriage. The event included a touching address by Pearl Foster, formal presentations by Wilma Gorey and Alleen Clarridge, and a miscellaneous shower for Jean’s upcoming union. The program closed with refreshments and dancing.
A notice announces an Old Time Dance at Dufferin School on Friday evening October 6. The Cloverleaf Orchestra of Acton will provide music for the event. Admission for gentlemen and ladies is requested. cake will be provided.
