Council approved the tender by J B Mackenzie and Son for the Community Centre at the arena site. Work includes excavation, concrete footings, ice sinking equipment, refrigerant water pipes, transformers, and electrical wiring. Final tasks cover ice suite level, piping, ice equipment, air system, and building completion on the west end.
The Acton Scout Group held a Rotary sponsored Father and Son Banquet at Gilwell Park, with 145 fathers and sons attending. Rotarian George Ganley showed films, Rev. A H McKenzie gave a blessing, and Gordon McKeown welcomed guests. The event featured skits, songs, and a toast to fathers, as well as plans for future Rotarian sponsored camps.
Acton District High School faces a proposed five room addition after a November board review following a recommendation by Principal E. A. Hansen. He detailed current enrollment of 365 students across grades nine to thirteen and stressed classrooms sized for 35 pupils, suggesting the plan would add a laboratory three standard classrooms and a cafeteria.
The St John Ambulance Brigade in Acton reports only two volunteers attended Wednesday's first aid course, prompting Superintendent R S Hart to announce another class attempt next Wednesday at 8 pm at the YMCA. If interest remains low, the division may be disbanded despite past active service at public events. Cam Leiphis received a 25 year service pin.
The district rescinded a prior resolution limiting use of school property to students and staff. The October meeting approved the change 3 to 0 with D. Moffat absent, allowing organizations within the district to apply to the board for use, subject to terms set by the board.
Work crews are installing street signs this week. Mill St signs will span from Millmand Main Sts to Churchill Road, with additional signs in Glenlea and Lakeview subdivisions. Financial actions include approving accounts totaling 9 793 46 and facility alterations for gym equipment storage.

Arrangements completed for a Basic Rescue Course to start Monday October 16 in Acton under Halton County Emergency Measures Organization. Bruce McGregor will lead as county coordinator with L A Thorne head instructor guiding training for first aid rescue and emergency response. Training runs each Monday at 8 pm through winter with participation open to residents 16 and older and coordinated through the YMCA and town offices.
Stewarttown village council asks county to enforce a 30 mile per hour limit from Check Line to Stewart Town School on Highway 7 citing safety concerns for children walking along a built up road without sidewalks. Esquesing Women’s Institute protests noisy trucks and soot. a letter from Mrs. Beryl Flynn of Acton about a foul odor from Beardmoore Tannery was filed.
Planning board approves rezoning from R2 to C1 to permit a liquor store on Longfield Road owned by the Liquor Central Hoard of Ontario. Residents urged landscaping and fencing, with no objections to use though calls for enhanced maintenance and screening.
Acton High School board met to review a comparison of student results from Easter and June examinations. Grade nine shows enrolment 134 with 832 passes. Grade ten reports 89 enro lment, 727 exams, 594 passes. Grade eleven totals 54 enrolment, 278 exams, 229 passes. Grade twelve lists 28 enrolment, 246 exams, 190 passes. Easter totals shown as contrastive figures.
