Halton County Firemen Parade and Church Service

Halton County Firemen attended their annual church service at Koos Presbyterian Church Acton on Sunday September 2 led by Rev Orsborn. The parade followed the service with Acton fire department hosting a lunch at the fire hall after a program that included musical entertainment and readings by local guests.

Large Congregation At Church Rally Day

A large congregation of about 350 attended the United church rally day services this week. Rev Edward Todd of Inglewood spoke to the children, Cyrd Leighton led the Sunday school, and Mrs Bo Lidken prayed. Carmen Woodburn Trive welcomed attendees as the junior choir sang under George Elliott.

Morning Highway Collision Causes Estimated $1000 Loss

A 6:45 am crash on Highway 77 east of Acton involved a Gea car driven by Oscar Broughton of KR ROL Acton and a PST model car driven by Secondo Rosset of Oakvale. Three passengers in the Rosset car suffered minor injuries. Broughton escaped injury. Constable Ray Andres investigated and reported good driving conditions. The owner of matchsticks from a fair was located.

Pastor Rev G Holmes Named New Acton Baptist Leader

Rev G Holmes appointed to lead the Acton church succeeding Stayner Me Holmes. Born in Jhinyon, he studied at Sarma College and Georgetown, Toronto, Brockville, and Stayner. He has three children and is moving with wife Mer and Mis Utolies to Acton.

Acton District Resident Killed At Main Street Crossing

An Acton district resident died last night at the Main Street CNLR crossing after a collision with a CNLR flyer. Investigators noted the car failed to slow as it approached the crossing. the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Manes Represents Acton Rotary At Toronto Conference

Dave Manes acted as Acton club representative at the district Rotary conference in Toronto. He chairs the conference planning for member attendance at the Governor's Ball at the Royal York Motel. After meals, Rotarian Jim Ladger led a singing period while a fines collection increased the Piggy Bank total. The meeting closed with a tour of the Acton Free Press plant led by Dave Dials explaining the printing operation.

Three Brownies Earn Wings At Flying-UB Ceremony

Three Brownies from the second Acton pack received their wings at a flying up ceremony in Scout Hall on Tuesday evening. Margaret Guthrel Sally Wilton and Victoria Newton were welcomed into the guides from the brownies. Mrs Raven Brown Owl congratulated the trio and Guide Captain Mrs GG Walths accepted them into the guide group. Mira G Adonis district commissioner spoke to guides and brownies, praising the new guides on passing tests and moving up. Taps closed the ceremony as cookies day plans were announced for Saturday.

Church Parade For Scouts And Cubs In North Halton

About 150 Scouts and Cubs in uniform marched through the town to Robert Battle school grounds for the Scouts Own Service in North Halton. Acton Citizens Band led the parade with flags as Acton troops Georgetown Norval and Glen Williams were represented. Reverend Willis Wer spoke in Brampton and a Baden-Powell quote was read by District Cub Master Murray Leayne.

Dedicate Christian Education Building at United Church

A new Christian Education Building addition at the United Church is set for dedication. Construction funded by parish funds, with specific rooms added to the parlor and study areas. Services and Sunday school will move to the refurbished spaces as the old church continues to function.

Town Meeting Approves Sale of Municipal Telephone System

A special meeting of the Nh Towne Stap council, called by Heese tot and Gatti, considered authorizing the sale of the Municipal Telephone System to Dunnville Consolidated Telephone Co Ltd. All members were present except Councilman Berguson who was unable to attend. The by law to authorize the sale was read and passed.

Doctor and Mrs Buchanan Meet Home Town Neighbor in Restaurant

In Acton two weeks ago Dr Allan J Buchanan and his wife met Wee Headly of Acton in a restaurant. The encounter surprised Dr Buchanan who turned and was tapped on the shoulder. Mrs Buchanan recently returned from a three month tour of Europe. Mr Headly plans to return home this week after a three week trip.

Acton Man Involved In Two Car Accident

An Acton man was involved in a two vehicle collision on a laneway near Stewart town. The other vehicle was parked and the owner, Allen Wether, reported the incident. Police and local authorities logged the report and opened a case for investigation.
