Halton County Council Deadlocks Over Equalized Assessment
At last Tuesday’s meeting Halton County Council debated the equalized assessment by law with three motions defeated. Solicitor George Edluatt urged settling differences to avoid expenses, proposing deductions to reflect new assessments up to 1951 year end. Unanimity was required for any motion, and Burlington Oakville Milton opposed a compromise. debate continued with further proposals tabled.

Two Stolen Cars Recovered In Acton
Provincial Police recovered two stolen cars in Acton. Constable Todd arrested two fourteen-year-old youths at gunpoint early Sunday on No 7 highway bound for Guelph in a stolen IHD Chevrolet sedan. The vehicle was reported stolen from W. Fairchild of Long Branch. James Watt and John Rogers, both fourteen and from Aldersod, assisted by F. Toth, were taken into custody and turned over to Long Branch police. A second stolen car, a 1951 Mercury, was recovered on Brock Ave Wednesday morning after being reported stolen from Toronto. The thieves forced the window and gained entry. Investigations by local police continue.

Mrs. M. McCann Dies In Toronto
Mrs. Marain F McCann Ryme dies October 6 in Toronto after a long illness. She is survived by three sons and three daughters and four grandchildren, all living in Ontario except Captain Peter McCann who served with the British Army in Hong Kong and who later joined the Canadian Army. Her husband predeceased her. The McCann family once resided on Holtton Avenue and she learned her trade at the Free Press office.
