Doctors reject claim of 15 percent fee hike in Halton

Halton County Medical Society contests Ben Benson’s charge of big doctor pay increases. Dr. R D Kunica says fees rose 4 percent yearly 1969 70, not 15 percent, and blames hospital costs and doctor shortages. Society opposes OHSIP payments and notes two to three months for cheque processing with patients bearing costs.

Hallowe'en eggy night brings few damages reported

Police and volunteers patrolled Friday evening as Hallowe'en passed with minor incidents. Fewer children than usual visited stores and schools collected UNICEF boxes. An out of town youth charged with minor liquor consumption after a chase. some egg hurling and soapy windows noted. Dances at the Music Centre and Legion hall drew small crowds but prizes awarded.

Break‑in charges tied to $3500 loss and arrests

Two men are charged with break and enter theft after a $3500 loss at Blow Press. One suspect pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing. the other is held on bail. About 1860 pounds of material were later recovered at a Toronto wreckers yard. Authorities connected a North West window entry and multiple arrests in Toronto and Acton.

Santa Rama Program Gives Acton Shoppers Free Christmas Help

Five Acton shoppers will each week for six weeks receive cash vouchers totaling 100 dollars weekly. Shoppers earn coupons with purchases at Participating stores displaying Santa Rama banners, submit full entries, and five winners are drawn each Saturday afternoon. Cash certificates redeemable only at participating stores, return deadline December 31, 1969.

Acton water plant near completion as new three stage system

Workmen from Clairson Construction finish the $760,000 Acton water pollution control plant described as the province s most up to date facility. The three stage tertiary system will treat effluent before the current sewage plant is repaired and returned to service. Engineer Bob Little says the plant will be the province s most efficient. Ontario Water Resources Commission recommended the system and Acton is among the first municipalities to install it.
