UNICEF Drive Sets Town Collection Record At Halloween
UNICEF funds from Acton Halloween collections hit a new town record of $316.20. Students from M Z Bennett and Robert Little schools gathered coins and candy door to door. Y's Men volunteers and local depots also hosted drives with high school students joining in. Previous years raised about $253 in 1965 and $200 earlier. Contributions included coat check receipts and hallway boxes.

Lions Club drives pledge drive to eye bank
Acton and district residents donated eyes to the Eye Bank after a Lions Club appeal. Murray Harrison collected 44 pledge cards on one Saturday and over 60 more the next. Donations came from private individuals. pledge cards remain available through Harrison and CNLB canvassers.

Remembrance Service At Cenotaph This Sunday
Acton Legionnaires stage a Remembrance Day display at Acton Home Furnishings, with flags, cenotaphs and crosses recalling World War I, World War II and Korea. A Sunday parade forms 10 30 am from the Legion, followed by services at Knox Presbyterian and United Church and a 1 pm Legion Hall dinner. Poppy sales run through the week with Legionnaires and Auxiliary canvassing local businesses and homes.

Quick-thinking student saves Lakeview home from fire
A 1 year old high school student, Jennifer Bishop of 215 Eb More Drive, phoned the fire department when a grease fire ignited in the kitchen. Firefighters, using water from a booster tank and extinguishers, battled the blaze estimated at $1,500 in damages while smoke was cleared with a smoke doctor device. The girl, home alone while preparing dinner, had recalled a fire extinguisher near the kitchen stove from her previous home and acted quickly before parents arrived. The incident ended with the home protected and the fire contained. further details appear on page two.
