Acton District Tops Sixth Victory Loan Again
Acton and district pushed the Sixth Victory Loan over the top, meeting the $225,000 objective at headquarters Monday night. Local totals reached about $239,000 for Acton and district with late returns to come in. Halton County also exceeded its goal at 111 percent, with Acton and neighboring communities over their own targets. The Canadian Wool Company led industrial participation with a high pennant award for 90 percent employee engagement.

The Canada Synod camp committees plan summer camps for boys and girls at Edgewood Park Eden Mills and seek to purchase the site as a permanent camp. Edgewood Park, a 20 year recreational area with facilities, will be converted with dorms, dining hall, crafts, and staff quarters. Campers will sleep in tents rather than cabins.

The Knox Presbyterian WMS monthly meeting at the president's home May 1 featured opening devotions by Mrs. Allison Patterson and Mrs. Cordiner. Mrs. Thomson read extracts from a British Guiana article by Mrs. Ashdown, marking the first in a series on the district. A report on the Provincials meeting by Mrs. Mainprize followed, with Mr. Fred Anderson performing In the Shadow of His Wings, assisted by Mrs. Thomson. The session ended with prayer and a social lunch.

Johnson Hilts Wedding at Knox Manse
A wedding took place Thursday afternoon at Knox Manse Presbyterian in Aton. Jessie Josephine Hilts daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Hilts married Sgt George Johnson eldest son of Mr and Mrs Robert Johnson. The Rev Forbes Thomson officiated. The bride wore heaven blue attire with beige accessories and was attended by Miss Betty Middleton. Best man was John Wheguttall. A reception followed at the groom’s mother’s home Mrs Robert Johnson. The couple left for St John’s New Brunswick to begin their life together where the groom is stationed. Guests came from Glenwilliam and Georgetown. A follow up tribute dinner was held Wednesday evening at Mrs Jack Norton’s home in Glenwilliam.

Milton fishermen exhibit fine catch from Hollow Lake trip
A Milton fishing party returned from an eight day Hollow Lake trip with a 79 pound catch. The group included D Galloway and H London among others and weighed fish such as a 25 pounder and several smaller ones. Milton and Acton communities learn of the death of Sergt Air Gunner Gordon Keith McLellan in active service. He was 33 or 34, married January 1 to Anne Drennan of Milton, and leaves parents Mr and Mrs D G McLellan and a large family. He enlisted February 1943, trained in Canada, served overseas in England, and was reported killed while on duty.

Delegates Discuss Future Air Travel at Aeronautical Convention
About 250 delegates from across Canada attended the Aeronautical Convention in Toronto on May 2. Councillors C L Kirkness and H Boulton reported that the Aeronautical Institute of Canada aims to rehabilitate returned airmen by developing aviation facilities.
