The Force Bowling Team defeated Provincial Savings Bank 3042 to 2918 in City Championship play offs but lost the city title to Seagram's who captured the Guelph City Championship and Williams Cup with a 3552 score. Rockwood Council Passes Daylight Saving Measure and By-Law
The Rockwood Town Council met at the Town Hall on May 13 with Reeve BD D Gray presiding. Minutes show approval of a daylight saving by-law for June July and August 1940 and actions on unpaid 1939 taxes, snow fence purchase, a plebiscite on two year terms, grant aid to the Town Hall Trustees, and accounts totaling $751.00. The session adjourned to June 3 for revision court and business.

Women suffers broken leg in Elm Tree Corner collision
Mrs William Wheeler of 185 Queen Street Guelph suffered a broken leg and facial injuries when her car driven by her son Harold Wheeler collided at Elm Tree Corner with Ephraim Allman of Toronto driving a second car. Both vehicles and a lumber trailer ended in the ditch three miles north of Brookville. Constable George Cookman investigated.

Mothers Day Services Highlight Local Churches
Last Sunday observances paid tribute to mothers with services across local churches. The Baptist Church combined church and School services with readings by Raymond Atkinson and Elva Fryer, a solo by Mr. W Coles, and a sermon from material supplied by the Ontario Religious Education Council. United Church offerings included a message titled Mother of Men, a Mothers Story by Gordon V. Thompson, solos by Betty Gibson, BI Vincent, and Donald Evans, and a Children's Choir performance. Knox Church in Acton held Family Sunday with a morning service where parents joined in the Sabbath School, floral tributes, and a theme on The Two Secrets of Jesus Christ, emphasizing God's Fatherhood and family love.

Orton Lad Struck by Car on Road to School
Bennett Root aged six of Orton suffered serious injuries including possible skull fracture after being struck by a car on a country road three and a half miles north of Ospringe while en route to school.
