Halton County increases grant to the fair to 150 dollars this year. Council recognizes the value of fairs to towns and county and approves higher appropriation. County road rate up by a tenth of a mill. Payment to high school boards approved. Municipalities to handle arrangements between clerks for old age pension work.
The May Halton County Council meeting in Milton discussed boosting Fair Board grants to 150 dollars and debated county road funding. Members supported aiding Acton Milton and Georgetown fairs and considered raising the road levy to 8/10 of a mill to cover snow and repair costs.
St Albans A Y V A presented a three act comedy set in an Eastern college town in June. A large cast of twelve performed as Pete’s elaborate summer plans lead to humorous predicaments with a happy ending and a smoothing of the path for true love.
Group Two led the Acton High School Literary Society meeting last Thursday afternoon. Martin Was sard chaired the program as 16 girls sang a opening chorus. Readings and sketches were performed by Isabel D Brimms Helen Lamb Myrna Rawson and others. The program included duets read pieces skits and speeches by multiple students with an evaluative critique by Miss Esther Taylor.
A May Day tea at the United Church featured a program with Mrs. Ho Cauldwell John Agar and Marjory Bilton. A Maypole decor with pasta shades and sweet pea mouquels framed the tables while tea was poured by Mrs. G H W Brown and Mrs. W J Atkins. The event under the group led by Mrs. Cleave and Mrs. J Mell drew a splendid attendance.
The council passed a $7,500 relief work estimate and instructed the Clerk to forward it to the Department of Highways. A by law amended the sanitary officer’s autary to align with Public Health Act changes. Laborers will provide their own transport. Meeting adjourned to June 1 at 1 PM for revision and ordinary business.

Treasurer W K Graham. Secretary W Middleton. The Executive Committee was set at five members: FP Terry. Dr EB Nelson. W D Talbot. PF J McCutcheon. J M McDonald. The Manager Trainer and Assistant Trainer appointments were left to the Executive.

A social evening and extra features followed Acton Clivens Band rehearsal Monday. Air. Narrow and Wad attended and delivered splendid music. The group served lunch at the close and discussed band improvement and upcoming season activities.
Judge W. N. Munro dismissed the 500 dollar damages claim of George Peacock, a Trafalgar Township farmer, against Halton County over a May 6 1935 automobile collision near Erquesing Township. Each side to pay their own costs.
The bridge on Main street is renamed as the work progresses. The gully along the roadside is being filled and the stream has been diverted so the two openings connect. Sidewalk reconstruction will follow to remove a dangerous highway spot with several motor mishaps in recent years.
The Duke of Devonshire Chapter I O O D E held its monthly meeting at Sin-P We Pearen’s home. Symon reported on the recent Provincial I O O D E meeting in Hamilton. Mrs Pearen spoke on the Edwards who ruled Great Britain. Mrs McRae reviewed part of The King’s Grace. Plans for Empire Day Concert were made. Regent Mrs Dow presided. lunch concluded the event.
