The Pool County council advanced a proposed workers compensation act covering wage loss for injured workers. The plan scales death and disability benefits, with caps up to two thousand dollars for death and five dollars weekly for total incapacity. State revenue shows a rising surplus amid growth in tax receipts.
Halton County Council met with members present as chair. A request from Mrs. Gauvill of Acton for grant to the Malta Woman's Institute was considered. The council approved a petition from M. Henderson M P for action on a Dulldug-e-brakwater project. An appointment to the Board of Examiners was made for W. H. Stewart of Acton. Auditor reports were presented and the treasurer authorized to pay 0.017.75 to the County Pool House of Refuge. Railway crossing safety concerns near Oakville were discussed with a request to rescind Order No. 8055 and remove the switch. A grant of 10 to the Tangent was approved for the battalion for 1910. The council also discussed a subway plan on the Tech line at Gy T track and a cement bridge project on Middle Road near Oakville.
The Toronto court heard that A J Lohin and McGregor faced liquor law charges with the proceedings overturning on a technical error. Witness statements and evidence were challenged while Judge McDougall quashed the main conviction as the trial exposed legal missteps by rural magistrates and cited prior rulings by Col Denison. The proceedings revealed the limits of the liquor law and the consequences of procedural flaws.
