The Lakeside Chapter I O D E held its March meeting at the Y with Regent Mrs A J Buchanan presiding and the new 1939 executive taking office. Plans for the St Patrick’s dance were discussed. Ruth Gibson performed Alice Blue Gown and Mrs Geo Somerville spoke on the Chapter Constitution. A questionnaire on I O D E work was taken up by Mrs M Leitch. Mrs Do Leishman presented The Sinking of the Cavalier. The session closed with God Save the King and a social hour hosted by the evening’s hostesses.

Halton County Seed Fair Showed Good Exhibits and Competition
The fourth annual Halton County Seed Fair at Milton drew farmers from across the county despite bad road conditions. Cereal grain classes were strong with twenty late and medical oats exhibits, ten early oats exhibitors, and many seed for sale. Nobarb Bailey’s exhibit, grown by John Ruddell of Georgetown, won the championship in cereal grains as exhibitors sold surplus seed before closing.

Arkell Resident Dies in Windmill Fall
Thomas Arkell aged 68 lifelong Arkell Village resident died last Thursday after plunging thirty feet from a windmill while repairing it on Ralph Sherwood’s farm. Coroner Dr. J P MacKinnon ruled no inquest needed. Arkell, working alone, likely slipped amid high wind and suffered fatal skull and spine fractures. Funeral held Saturday from Juan Orme residence with interment in Farnbint Cemetery.
