Closing concert and handicraft display by Acton Girl Guides
The 1st Acton Company held a closing contest and handicraft display in the United Church Sunday School room. Mrs. T. E. Robinson distributed badges to the seven second class guides and three tenderfeet. Entertainment featured solos, recitations, piano pieces, and a First Aid demonstration. Mrs. E. C. Reed spoke on guides in isolated districts.

A wedding at Aurora Gospel Church on Sunday June 26 united Hazel Elizabeth Connor and Robert James Sweet in a double ring ceremony. Rev. Leonard L. Coupland and Rev A W Whitehead officiated. The bride wore a gardenia satin gown with net yoke and veil. she carried a cascade of roses and white swainsona. Attendants included Mrs Leonard Manning and Bernice and Roberta Connor with pink and blue gowns and floral halos.

A special Nassagawesa Township Council meeting chaired by Vansickle approved Ernest Dredge selling about 6 acres for $1 to create Recreational Grounds. Township to fence and post. weed cutting to be done at $2 per hour by Roy Woods, starting soon under the Weed Inspector. Council also discussed selling the township stone crusher but deemed it unwise. Meeting adjourned to July 5 at 8 pm.

Parade and Service in Park Honors British Empire Heritage
A large turnout attended the Magna Carta Parade and park service organized by Acton Brancho of the Canadian Legion. The procession included Acton Boys and Girls Band, legionnaires, Port Credit Bugle Band, Acton Cubs and Brownies, and marched along Bower Avenue Mil and Main Streets to the park. Captain Rev. John M. Anderson MC and Bar presided, with Rev. W. G. Luxton assisting. Major Rev. E. Brillinger M.B.E. of Guelph spoke on the heritage of the British Empire and the fatherhood of God and brotherhood of man. Bandmaster C. Mason led hymns and musical numbers.

W K Graham, a retiree from Acton banking, achieved a hole in one on the third at Cutten Fields in Guelph last Saturday. Witnesses described the shot as impressive and congratulated the golfer on joining the exclusive club.

Ruth Nelson Mission Band held its annual picnic on the church lawn on Thursday June 17. Races crowned winners across age groups with Keith Mainprize and Paul McGeachie top in 5 and under, Diane Baird and Irene Gordon in 6 and 7, Bobbie Brown and Betty Mae Lambert in 9 and 10, and David Cullen and Joan Oakley 10 years and over. Other events included Clothes Pin Race won by David Cullen and Kicking Shoe Race by Bobbie Brown and Mary Maddox. Three legged Race led by Arlene Gordon and Betty Mae Lambert, Wheel Barrow Race by Bobby Brown and James Cullen. Adults also competed with Captains Maureen and David Cullen and a Mothers Kicking Shoe race won by Mrs. M. Lambert.
