The Fishery Commission, meeting at Halifax, adjourns for six weeks after agreeing a procedural program. Judgment is postponed until about December 15, the maximum time permitted by the Withington Treaty.

Fires destroy the Roman Catholic Church Seminary and Presbytery, with aboriginals denying involvement and authorities warning of grave consequences for Canada’s unsettled Oka dispute.
George Edgecumb of Dansville, once married in Canada to Victoria Bolster, faces trial. He allegedly married a second woman who joined his family as a boarder and later fled after a $500 peace offer. Edgecumb claims a Utah divorce preceded the second marriage and was jailed after failing bail.

In Newton County Missouri Jesse A Lynch founder of a new religion and his wife were sentenced to 60 and 33 years imprisonment for a case of child abuse tied to their belief that illness could be cured by laying on of hands. They allegedly hurled a sick child between them causing fatal skull injuries. The couple were convicted despite insanity pleas.
