A Glasgow Daily Record clipping from March 30 1968 titled Horror on the Ice drew Scottish readers who condemned Canada’s seal slaughter. Letters denounce methods as atrocious and mass killing as inexcusable while urging humane sealing and government action.
At a meeting in Acton last Wednesday Acton Reeve Bert Hinton urged moving the North Halton Urban Board Christmas party to an individual ticket basis funded from fees and not the budget. Mayor Les Duby warned the plan would break up the board while Deputy Reeve praised the meetings. The discussion touched on harmony, cost cutting, and potential hosting in September with water and hot dogs in the county town.
