Halton Farmers Visit Michigan on Three Day Tour

A three day Halton Soil and Crop Improvement Association bus tour carried 66 farm folk through Fanshaw dam Middlesex damage from a May cyclone in Sarnia and Imperial Oil plant visits. The group toured five Michigan farms including Frank Jacobs Armada 120 acre site with grass silage and Huff Son Romeo loosed housing. They finished at Dearborn Ford Museum then returned 64 Haltonites tired but satisfied after covering 595 miles.

Diesel Tractor First of Its Kind in Canada

A gleaming new diesel cab over engine tractor and trailer arrived in Acton and left for Brandon Manitoba from Toronto, touted as Canada’s first of its kind. Harold Bellamy and Murray McFarlane pilot the 34 and a half ton rig loaded at about 69 000 pounds with 130 gallon fuel tank, 11 feet six inch trailer height.

Ruth Smith Hailed By Multiple Showers After Wedding

Ruth Smith, a recent bride, was honored at a series of showers hosted by Miss Frances Jones in Long Branch and other local groups. Presentations came from the Ladies' Aid of Knox church, the Ladies' Euchre club, the Daughters of Knox, Beardmore office staff, and Beardown girls with various community and kitchen pantry events noted.

Guild Holds Last Meeting of Season

St. Alban's Guild met in the Parish hall on June 3 for the final session before summer. President Mrs. Sutton led the meeting as minutes were read by Mrs. C Cook and treasurer Mrs. Newton reported finances. Attendance was unusually small and plans for the June closing party were dropped.

Church Decoration Is Simple Beautiful

Bishop Ryan praised St Josephs Church after recent redecoration featuring pale green ceilings ivory walls and woodwork. The sanctuary displays three design stencil work in green and gold with crosses, new flooring insulation and refreshed pews kneelers book cases and gallery benches.
