Equalized Assessment Approved by County Council

County council approved the equalization of assessment without dissent. Burlington tops with 124.12 percent of county costs, followed by Oakville 40.46 percent and Georgetown 5.0 percent. Other totals include Esquesing 36 percent Milton 32 Acton 25 and Nawagsaweya 15 percent.

Motors Roar At Georgetown Yellowjacket Scrambles

About 40 riders competed on a dusty hill pasture west of town for the Georgetown Yellowjacket Motorcycle Club Scrambles. Hamilton riders dominated with a sweeping victory while David Seh led the Grand Prix finale and local Paul Head won the open class. Acton farm spectators watched as dust billowed and two minor spills occurred. St. John Ambulance and Wayne Wilton assisted as needed.

Rockwood Carnival Promises Full Day of Festivities

parede booth s and a dance fill Rockwood public school grounds on Saturday. A parade begins at 26 club featuring Actan Citizens Band. Booths sell home baking attire treasures and antiques with hot dogs games and a talent contest. A sidewalk artist pony ride and a miniature carousel delight children. Evening dance with Merv Tolton’s orchestra closes the event as local residents flock to the district turnout.

New Lions Officers Installed By District Governor Monday

District Governor Phil Waite of Brampton installed Acton Lions officers at the regular Monday dinner meeting at the station Hotel. New officers included Hartley Coles as president and Al Lauder directing, with Pete Papillon serving as director and Jim McLennan as lion tamer.

Halton Region Conservation Authority Lifeguards offer four types of sessions at Kelso Conservation Area including Red Cross Royal Life Saving Society adult and Leader Patrol courses. Registration deadlines span June 18 to July 1 with fees ranging from 2 to 3 dollars per child and a $3 adult Learn to Swim option.

Book Recalls Church Union Anniversary

The Rev A Brook longtime church minister was honored at United Church anniversary with a commemorative book from Hamilton conference written by Dr Howse. Brook recalled the 1925 union of Methodist Presbyterian and Congregational congregations. He noted Acton townsfolk have nine churches and opposed Christian division as a scandal of Protestantism. Rev Dwight Engel urged United Anglican union as a needed step in his sermon.

Divert Creek Project Details Near Wallace Avenue

The plan diverts the creek north of the Wallace Avenue area, crossing the H. K. Porter property and running through land owned by A P Green Fire Brick. Mansell Nellis Construction bulldozes north of the current stream as the bed narrows from about ten feet at the mouth to five feet where it passes under the C N L R tracks into the achoul creek.

Alar Raised But Fire Out of Area

Firefighters raised a cloud of dust as a cavalcade followed the truck to a fire near Kinglewind in the Acton fire area. The alarm was raised Tuesday around 8 p.m. in Erin Township near Ballinafad and Esquesing, as the truck headed north toward Bainafed. The fire was contained back to the Acton area.

Tenders Soar Above Estimate New Hydro Building Deferred

Tender prices for a new hydro building on Alice Street ranged from 44.46 to 104970 dollars, far above the estimated 40000. Architects and hydro commissioners doubted the bids. Mayor Duby aims to focus on the Centennial Library as the project is shelved pending further word. Credits total 21014.40 dollars approved for payment.

Campbellville Post Office will move to a new $22 000 home on June 26 after 1958 rent quarters. Postmaster Doug Agnew says the move to the new village quarters near Guelph Line will be completed by 9 am June 28. The move adds space for sorting tables and racks but no staff increase. a patron notice will detail the location change.

Deer collision on Highway 7 near Acton causes no injuries

Casualty Milton O P I investigated a fatal accident on Highway 7 near Acton on Friday evening but the crash involved a deer tangling with a car driven by a Willowdale woman. The car sustained $20 damage just east of Fifth Line.
