Acton Wins Near Miss Over Oakville in Close Baseball Classic

Acton baseball nine edged Oakville 10 to 9 in a rain touched see-saw battle. Heavy hitting and fielding miscues defined the game with Huffman driving in a run and Leader collecting key hits as Acton preserved a slim ninth inning lead. Oakville stole twelve bases but could not overcome Acton’s late surge.

Severe Storm Hits Acton Area With Fire Damage

Acton district reports a strong storm last Saturday causing minor damage citywide. Wm Landsborough home roof furnace intake burned, several others note vivid lightning. Community events include Inter Parish County Softball League formation and a church social.

Era Mosa Court of Revision reduces assessments and confirms roll

The Era Mosa Township Council met as a Court of Revision on June 6 with Acting Reeve D H Storey and Councillors Lush and Stewart. It reduced R C Wm McGladder’s assessment by 400 and cut Guelph Trust Co and Udney Richardson by 200 each, while leaving the rest of the roll confirmed. The meeting adjourned to July 11 at 8 p.m for further general business and to bond the Corporation for 33 49 for a duplicate cheque from the Provincial Treasurer as Railway Tax for 1924. The assessor’s salary 129 50 was ordered paid along with dog damage and relief accounts. Road Voucher No 7 for 161 28 was approved.

The Acton I O O F No 204 held its Decoration Day service at Fairview Cemetery with graves of departed members honored. Dr Frank Williams of Toronto spoke on three I O O F principles, and the Acton Citizens Band played sacred numbers during the ceremony. An evening church service at United Church followed with Rev Mr Poole delivering a message based on Friendship Love and Truth.

County Councillors Raise Their Salaries

Halton County Council met in Milton with Reeve Thetford of Acton elected to replace the late George Barber. They discussed Subways costs with a ten percent share for County, Oakville, and Trafalgar, and approved proceeding. The Institute for the Blind urged a $100 grant. By-law No. 640 set equalized assessments and By-law 41 set per diem and mileage for members. An Acton auto crash involving Patrick Brohman led to a court adjournment.

Acton Elects Reeve and Trustee by Acclamation

At a Friday meeting in Acton, E T Thetford was elected Reeve and W R Norton named School Trustee to fill vacancies after the deaths and removals. Both accepted promptly, avoiding an election, with praise from ex-Warden A Mason and local councillors.

Acton Council Passes 1932 Tax Rate and Daylight Saving

At a regular meeting the Acton Council approved the 1932 tax bylaw setting a 49 mill rate split among interest sinking school county street library waterworks and salaries. A daylight saving bylaw was adopted effective June 25 to September 4 after debate among councillors.
