Wheat Freight Derails Twice In Two Days At Moffat
A 60 car wheat train derailed near Moffat causing extensive track damage and spillover of grain into a creek. The incident followed a prior derailment near Stratford at West Moncton on Monday. Crews worked through the day to restore service as investigators probe the cause.

Car and freight train collision at Mill Street crossing
Last night shortly after 10 at the Mill Street level crossing Sandy McLean driving west on Mill Street narrowly escaped injury when his car was struck by a shunting freight. The right side was dented and the left front fender crushed against the signal post as the car was dragged back several yards. McLean was uninjured. Constable John Hodgins investigated the incident. The train continued about midnight.

Planning Board Grants Petrofina Lot Approval for Service Station
The Planning Board approved Petrofina Ltd to erect a service station on the southeast corner of No 7 Highway and Churchill Road after compliance with lot and zone regulations. Third annual Decoration Day ceremony drew a large Acton crowd Sunday afternoon. A parade, flowers and wreaths were laid at St Joseph's, Fairview cemeteries, and the Pioneer cenotaph by multiple groups including the Guelph Pipe Band and Acton Legion. Mayor Tyler welcomed attendees as Rev Costerus led worship and Rev Reid spoke on honoring the fallen and service members with floral tributes and prayers.

Council Holds Closed Session On Brankiewicz Case Talks
Elwin Kentner of Acton faces a magistrate court appearance in Guelph next week on a charge of assault after an Erin incident involving Donald Kalte of Milton following a dance. Kentner and others arrived at the Kalte scene where an altercation occurred. Kalte was severely hurt and taken to Hamilton hospital. Acton council met in camera to discuss the long standing Brankiewicz dispute over a road blockage affecting Lakeview development, with Brankiewicz’s lawyer offering to dedicate property for a straight road if the town builds it. The meeting, initially contested as private or public, was voted closed to all but parties concerned with the Brankiewicz matter. spectators were asked to leave.

Kindergarten enrollment climbs at public school
