Welcome Spring Recovery Chloride Drops Over Half

The town learns its water supply at the south spring can be partly used again after a year since the Medical Officer of Health shut it off due to pollution. Mayor John H. Guy cites Dr Berry noting 50 percent capacity may be available as chloride levels fall by half.

Water supply plans eyed for Churchill Road North

Mayor Gay said chloride in the water has fallen from 1108 to 526 parts per million and outlined a proposed water storage project for Churchill Road North. Two options, an elevated tank or an underground reservoir, would feed water mains to Main Street North to create a loop with the current system, ensuring adequate supply for industry.

Walls and Bridge Work Near School On No 7 Highway

Retaining walls on the east side of the school bridge at No 7 highway have been completed. The grade has been levelled for a new sidewalk from the school lane to River Street. A railing was installed and curbing laid along the edge. Tuesday evening work continued with cement walk paving planned. The project aims to bring the sidewalk and roadbed to the same level with a drainage basin between the brick and concrete areas.

Stratford festival waits as Euringer misses premiere

Fred Euringer will not attend his play Blind Man's Buff during the Stratford Festival run though he helps with script changes. He notes his three Shakespearean roles August 16 to 20 and plans to watch from the wings while his work moves toward production. Euringer, a York University and Yale Drama School alumnus, is Acton born and son of Mrs Sophie Euringer. He aimed for Europe to study theatre further while continuing his Stratford involvement.

Smash Robbery at Hotchen Bakers and Legion

A morning break in at Hotchen's Bakers and the Canadian Legion caused minor theft and property damage. Thieves smashed a bakery screen window taking a few chocolate bars and cigarettes, then entered the Legion site via a cellar window to steal a small amount of change. Police investigations continue led by Corporal Ron Mason as details from Les Horghen and Eminesan Patrick emerge.

Accident on Churchill Road Causes $375 Damage

Police estimated damage at about $375 after a Friday afternoon collision on Churchill Road South. A late-model car driven by Frank Szabo backed from a Churchill Road driveway and hit Moto Kaa of Churchill Road. Constable Robert MEREAU of the local O P P detachment investigated the accident.

Holiday Closure Notice for Civic Holiday Observance

The Holiday Stores and newspaper offices close all day Monday for the August 1 Civic Holiday. Staff will complete Monday’s work on Friday and Tuesday and correspondents should submit copy as early as possible on Friday or Tuesday.

South Spring water okayed for mix with other supplies

Acton council discussed using a portion of the south spring water, once the town’s main supply, now usable and potentially blended with other sources. Dr A F Bull had flagged unsafe consumption last year. the debate included chlorine content and contamination notes. Mayor Gay and officials considered water continuity and the town’s portion of the extant cost, with a vote to affirm the debenture-backed plan over two years.

Acton Woman Injured in Broadside Car Crash

An Acton woman remained in Midton District Hospital after a two car broadside on Thursday near Milton Street West. Mrs Dan Winn 70 Main Street suffered multiple injuries and her husband was driver of the eastbound Portia. Westbound car struck broadside, Mrs Winn ejected and trapped under floorboards. Passengers R U DeSane and George Bishop from Wtonton were treated for cuts and bruises at Mal tom Dasniet Hospital. Tannery in Full Production Soon Huntsville Men Here

A Huntsville tannery staff are starting work locally as production ramps up. Parker of Beardmore says the boomhouse and hides processing will soon be fully operational, though holidays and incomplete shutdowns delay full closure. Equipment repairs and reassembly continue to combine Huntsville and Acton tanneries.

High winds and rain damaged the Brookville central public school last Friday causing a collapsed inside corridor. The loss tops $2,000 with blocks, plumbing, and window frames ruined. Repairs begin immediately as workers return Monday to speed completion.

Morning Crash Injures John Henry Boley in Ontario Shuffle

John Henry Boley of 220 Scene Street was hospitalized after a collision with Howard Anguish of RR 2 Water log early Thursday morning on New 200 subtoads near Campbelhille. The wagon overturned into a ditch, driver’s side smashed, and Boley was transported to Guelph General Hospital by ambulance. Public safety officials investigated the crash.
