Underground Wiring Rolls Across Canada Despite Setback
Canada pushes ahead with underground electrical wiring as a growing trend. Saskatchewan Power Con. labels underground lines a luxury taxpayers may cover. SPC chief says developers seeking underground facilities next year incur higher costs. Municipalities and homeowners support safer, neater, lower-maintenance networks. URD survey shows 24 percent near underground stages, 36 percent advancing, 2 percent heavy distribution. Atlantic area and Quebec lag behind. Prairie provinces lead in underground installs. Acton starts first major underground program in Lake View subdivision and may require all new subdivisions to install underground services.
