Fire brigades from Erdn, Acton and Rockwood battled a lightning struck barn near No 24 highway to save the structure and stop a blaze. Town workers and hydro crews restored services while a bee swarm on Bower Ave was captured by Colin McColl.

New YMCA Board Sets Washroom Upgrade Plans
G. W. McKenzie named chairman of the YMCA board at the annual meeting held June 19 in the Y. Dick Bean presided. new officers include Rev Ralph Price as measurer and Gordon Oder as finance chair. A special June 26 session approved advertising tenders for basement washrooms and showers. The Y posted a year end surplus of 67.39 with receipts 4527.34 and expenditures 4459. Bob Redfern could not attend. he had left Acton for a summer course.

The Free Press announces no issue next Thursday July 8 as staff take a week off after 88 consecutive weeks of publication. The office remains open Friday July 3 and Saturday morning but closed from then until Monday July 13 when normal operations resume.

Limehouse church marks 92nd anniversary services
Limehouse Presbyterian held its 92nd anniversary with Rev. James Sutherland preaching at both services. He baptized infant William Murray, son of Rev. and Mrs. Alex Calder, at the morning service. Five Escape as Car Burns to Cinders
Five Acton youths escaped unharmed when a car rolled into a ditch near Linghampton on No 24 highway and erupted in flames. Blythe Dowling Eugene Villemaire Fred Allen Ronald Mason and Earl McCoy were in the 194? model car. The driver said lights failed before the crash and the car jammed a culvert. Provincial constable Ted Jordan noted the fire burned the vehicle to a cinder.

About 70 Acton Wool Combing employees and families joined nine buses from Guelph and 54 buses from the district for the Tex tile Workers' Union of America picnic at Crystal Beach.
