Old Gooseneck Elm Defies Time Near Halton Highway
The famed bent elm nicknamed Old Gooseneck stood beside Highway 25 for generations, drawing Halton locals and out-of-town visitors. A grandson of J R Elliot replanted it’s once bent trunk and a local judge, George E Bruiot, helped preserve its legacy before its final decline. The tree’s memory lives on through restored sections and museum display plans by Major H J Newtan.

Beardmore Firm Seeks Minor Change in Sewage Land Deal
Beardmore and Co urged a small modification to the land transfer agreement with the town for a proposed sewage plant addition. The company asked that existing area including the sludge bed be excluded from the lease, arguing the land should not be tied up for 10 to 20 years. The town would use the area until full, and the sole company request aimed to speed transfer so construction can proceed. The project would require about two years after construction starts before operation begins.
