Acton and Guelph Intermediates battled to a 4 4 tie after a ten minute OT. Norm Morton scored thrice for Acton while McMillan tied late to force the extra period. Shirk stood out in goal for Guelph as Acton pressed for the win.
Guelph Junior Bees remain undefeated by defeating Acton 4 to 1 on the road. Kelly opened scoring in the second period with Acton short handed, then Guelph added three more as Acton was penalized and the home side pressed in waves. Woods held Acton at bay while Slade and Ambis anchored the Guelph attack. Continues on Page Five.
Caretaker J R Anderson of the Acton Post Office has been granted a leave due to illness after over twenty years serving in the new building. Mr. Cameron Lelahman will fill the role during Anderson’s absence, and Anderson plans to remain in the building’s apartment with his wife while he recovers.
WHS presented a Thursday amateur show at Town Hall with locals in the cast. An orchestra led by Charles Landsborough opened the program as J. M. McDonald served as chairman. Contests included Pred Coles singing The End of the Road and George Fountain performing The Devil's Dream with Lorraine Palant providing recitation.
King George V died Monday night ending a reign of 25 years and eight months. Edward, Prince of Wales, became king as Queen Mary and royal family gathered at the bedside. The prince was told Your Majesty and the Dominion mourns. messages of sympathy were sent from Halton County and Burlington.
The Women's Auxiliary of St. Albans Church elected officers at their January 15 meeting. Criss Moore was named President with Mrs Brullinger as Vice President and Mrs Pargeter as Secretary. Delegates for visiting the sick and collectors were chosen, and a luncheon followed prayer led by the rector.
The Acton Council met to approve snow removal on Mill Street as a trial using relief labor. Dr J A McNiven was named Medical Officer of Health and Henry Awrey with the Reeve joined the Board of Health.
Printing work draws distant orders for a cover with Free Press imprint. Knox Church Guild notes a memorial service for the King and a debate on transportation systems. Dublin Women's Institute holds a social with euchre, program, prizes, and dancing at Mr and Mrs McGlaughlin's home.
