Acton Utilities Commission Opens First 1935 Session
The 1935 first session of the Acton Public Utilities Commission convened Friday evening with Commissioners L G King BD G Arnold and Reeve El Thetford presiding. Arnold, newly elected, signed the office declaration as Thetford began a pro tem chair in the absence of a permanent choice. The meeting approved Thelford as chair for January 11 1935 and set next regular meeting for the year. The commission reviewed arrears and authorized payments to Hydro Department Norton Motors Canadian National Railway Yire Truck License and other suppliers. Reeve Thetford announced his resignation and thanked colleagues and press for support, with best wishes for the future. Arnold moved to delegate Superintendent Witso1 to the Annual Convention of the Association of Municipal Electric Utilities at Toronto January 15–20.

Improvements at the Dominion Hotel on Main Street were finished under Messrs Charles and Harry Holmes Jr, with new lighting furnishings and modernized features. The Mo O A building and gymnasium work progresses with plumbing fixtures installed and painting ongoing. The Duke of Devonshire Chapter hosted bridge and euchre socials at three homes ending with a dinner at Mrs. Amos Musson’s. prizes awarded to Mrs. E J Hargard and Mrs. Holloway, among others. The Knox Fire Brigade responded to a fire at Miss Hannah Wallace’s Knox Avenue home, confining it to the kitchen. damages suspected from smoke and furniture loss exceed one hundred dollars while residents suffer from influenza. The fire cause remains undetermined.
