The Sea Hawk theater drama by Rafael Sabatini arrives in town for Saturday showings with matinee and two evening performances. Production is notable for earlier Toronto crowds and high ticket prices, while local acts and community notes follow including skating party reports and road open conditions.
Acton mourns Postmaster Matthews a long time resident and employee of the Acton Post Office for seventy two years. He suffered apoplexy in December, recovered briefly, then died January 10 at age about ninety. He and his wife shared sixty six years of marriage, with Diamond Anniversary in 1918 and a remarkable family and community legacy.
James Matthews and Maria Graham celebrated sixty years of marriage at Acton, where Matthews has served as postmaster for sixty-three years and as a Great North Western Telegraph Company agent for fifty-seven. They were prominent local residents with deep community ties and a legacy of public service.

The Acton Fall Fair annual meeting notes a financially sound fair with a substantial surplus. C B Swackhamer is re elected president. William Johnstone and Duncan McDougall named vice presidents. Committees discuss spring horse show and field crop contest. 1925 fair set for September 22–23. W J Akins remains secretary treasurer.
Two league games at the rink since the last issue. Beardmore & Co. beat Hewetson's 4 to 2 on Thursday, then defeated Town 1 to 0 Monday without Town’s top scorer McDonald. Snow slowed play. standings list Beardmore leading. Week schedule shows Acton Tanning Co. vs Hewetson's and Town vs Hewetson's.
The Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church on the Toronto Sarnia Highway between Norval and Brampton burned Sunday afternoon. Lack of water hindered salvage of brick building and interior. The church, on third line west Chinguacousy, housed a fine organ a new piano a lighting plant and two memorial tablets to the congregation’s soldiers. The total loss listed around 16 000 with 6 000 insured.
A fragmented exchange shows Mrs Flatte asking about a doctor for indigestion and Mr Flatte answering in terse terms. The text suggests a comic or staged domestic vignette with garbled OCR.

Mr and Mrs Thomon Mack of London visited their daughter Mrs John Lambert in Georgetown. Thomas Rumley of Park Avenue lacerated hand at Acton Tanning Co works. seven stitches. Mr and Mrs H D Moore and Miss Clara Moore attended Prof Maddala’s lecture in Georgetown. George Soper Jr and Eugene McPherson recently returned from Guelph Hospital after appendicitis. took first walk down MIL Street together.
Lucile Fielding wife of Joseph Grisch died at her residence on Werttts addy Harriston December 3. She was born in Guetpur and married about forty seven years ago. She leaves two sons John Kennedy Toronto two daughters Mrs John Dukes Burlington Charles Harriston and William Detroit and a sister Mrs Thomas Ramshaw Acton. Funeral at Harriston Cemetery conducted by Rev Thomas R Todd of the Methodist Church. MPa W. F. Hegins attended the funeral of her aunt.
John Douglas of Parkdale Toronto died suddenly at 76. He led anti-union forces at Cowan Avenue Presbyterian Church and planned to move a resolution at the January annual meeting for the church to join the continuing Presbyterian Church. Douglas chaired Toronto Board of Education years ago and taught in Trafalgar before practicing law in Toronto for over four decades. He was a long-time Free Press reader and had many friends in the city.
Halton County will have a fifteen member council this year with Oakville’s new deputy taking a seat alongside Reeves from Acton Burlington Georgetown Milton and other municipalities. The first meeting is set for Tuesday January 27 at 2 pm to elect the Warden.
