Golden Jubilee of Acton Baptist Church Building
The Free Press recalls the Golden Jubilee of the Acton Baptist Church building at the corner of Mill and Flynn Streets opposite the Lore. A special anniversary service featured Rev C R K Gower, Rev WS McAlpine, Rev Roe Janes, and Rev Hooc Priest with soloist Miss Little Moore. The celebration marked 50 years since plans began with an autograph quilt benefitting the building fund and remembered families and ministers who helped establish the church.

Acton Women's Institute Meeting Hosted by Mrs Robbins
The February Acton Women’s Institute meeting at Mrs Robbins Brock Ave featured Mrs Davidson presiding. Members voted to stations for Halton Music Festival and a local welfare benefit, with a Valentine read by each. A lively program included papers on citizenship and famous sayings, a tribute to Dr Flora Little, and songs led by Mrs Robbins.

Beloved Minister of United Church Dies After Illness
The Rev Laws Picker ing, longtime minister of Acton United Church, died Monday in Toronto General Hospital at age fifty six after a lengthy illness. He previously led Hanover United Church for eleven years and pastored in Barrie and other charges. He remodeled the Acton church interior, often using carpentry to complete his vision. He is survived by his wife May Rowan and two sons John and Louis, with one son Robert having died in World War I. The funeral honors were held with private service at home and a church service, followed by burial in Fairview Cemetery.

Signs of Spring Dampened by Cold Snap in Speyskle Area
Last week hints of spring gave way to a severe cold spell. Sub zero temperatures and a heavy snowstorm challenged motorists and homeowners. Pussy willow buds appeared, but by Sunday a cold air mass pushed temperatures near zero, rising to about fifteen by morning. By Tuesday some relief arrived as people resumed daily work.
